Procedures:
Third Grade:
Morning:
  • Come in the classroom and unpack bookbag
  • Students must show their signed agenda to their pod leader
  • If there are any notes for Mrs. Spain the pod leader is suppose to catch this and make sure the student shows it to Mrs. Spain
  • Students take out morning work journal and do what is on the overhead. Students eat breakfast now if they need to.
  • After finishing morning work, the students free read or do any other homework they may have forgotten for the night before
Classroom:
  • Students do not enter the classroom on the way back from lunch or specials until they are invited by the teacher.
  • Students must enter the classroom quietly
  • Before lining up, students must push their chairs under and stand behind their desk.
  • Students must wait for their color or pod to be called before lining up.
  • Always free read when you finish anything early.
  • NO talking during transitions
  • Always line up at the back door to leave for math and the front door to come back in after math.
  • Thumbs up if you hear the teachers instructions and sometimes if you are finished.
Lunchroom:
  • Students must always say yes ma'am and thank you to the lunchroom ladies.
  • NO talking in the lunchroom when the music is playing
Hall:
  • Students will follow the white squares on the correct side of the hall.
  • Students will walk quietly with their hands by their side
  • Say good morning (respond to adults)

Tornado Watch/Warning


Definition:
Tornado Watch: Conditions are favorable for a tornado or severe weather.
Make staff aware, but take no action.
Tornado Warning: Tornado has been sighted; take shelter immediately.


Signals:
1. Upon the forecast of severe weather, the secretary will turn on the radio to monitor the situation.
2. Schools will be alerted of a tornado watch and warning via weather radios.
3. The school will be notified of the watch conditions via an audio announcement.
4. If a warning is issued, an announcement stating the warning will be made and a tornado drill will occur.
5. One long ring of the bell will indicate an end of a drill with a follow-up announcement if a tornado watch is still in effect.


Steps of Action:
1. Signal the favorable conditions with an announcement of the tornado watch.
2. Signal beginning of drill with an announcement of the tornado warning.
3. Students should move to assigned interior rooms or halls and sit with their backs to the wall and remain silent so that verbal communication can occur. Students should have a book to cover their head as they assume the position.
4. Teachers will visually sweep room, close windows and doors.
5. Teachers should keep their class rosters with them during the drill and kneel behind their classes to make sure students are following proper drill procedures. Teachers should verify the student classroom count.
6. The all-clear will be one long ring of the school bell system and verbal announcement over then intercom system.


Fire Drill
Definition:
A fire in the building or on the premises requiring the evacuation of the building.
Signals:
Ringing of the fire alarm.
Steps of Action:
  1. Evacuation
1. Teachers will lead students out of the building in a single file line in the direction shown on the floor plan.
a. Use the primary route (red) shown on the map of the building.
b. If the exit is blocked, then use your secondary route (green) to exit the building.
2. Teachers will visually sweep room, turn off lights and close door.
3. If the alarm sounds during change of classes, students will report immediately to their previous class.


II. Assessment of Situation
1. All teachers will check their roll after students have been evacuated from building.


  1. Teachers will use their emergency alert color flip charts to signal status of their class. Red card equals need urgent help. Yellow equals need help not life threatening. Green equals no assistance required. Catherine Braselton will be responsible for checking the cards at the upper athletic field and Martha Carter will be responsible for checking the cards in the bus turnaround. Any red or yellow indications will be reported to the administrator for their area.


  1. The following personnel are responsible for checking restrooms and hallways located in these designated areas:


Cathy Keeper 5th grade end of building
Jeri Lynn Hutchins Kindergarten end of building
Tamara Etterling Front of building


After checking these areas each person will report to the administrator located at check-in points.
III. Resolution
  1. Students and staff will remain at designated areas, until the administrator in charge tells them otherwise.
